Civics
In civics this quarter, I learned about the difference between state and nation. I learned that a state is a community that is organized political community living under the political system such as the government. It refers only to the social-cultural entity. While a nation is the community of people that share common language, culture, ethnicity, descend, or history. It has permanent population, defined territory, has a government, and it has the capacity to enter into relations with other states. For this quarter, our assignment is to make a presentation about state and nation, and we had to make our own research questions that will cover the state and nation topic. My topic is about the factors that make Indonesia a nation. My group consists of three members; Moelan, Da Eun, and me. I think that we did a good job presenting. The things that we need to improve is not to read all the time; we should be able to explain the things we researched without reading from our paper. We also had our test about state and nation, where Pak Todung gave us one page article with only two questions. The score that I got from the test is 73% out of 100%. Im not that satisfied with my score, and to increase the score I will need to understand more about the state and nation, characteristic of each, and to analyse and give my opinion toward the question that is asked.
How this subject relate to intercultural awareness is that I am able to gain the knowledge about what is nation and what is state related to Indonesia and other country as well. Democratic is one of the characteristic, which means how the highest position is in the citizen's hand. This make my friends and I to increase our awareness towards the democratic world of Indonesia, and how the social-political governments work.
